I’ve searched the internet for the best local lockdown Valentine's ideas. I’ve kept it simple and recommended some of the North East's finest hidden gems to help you keep Valentine's exciting during lockdown.
The best days start with breakfast!
Valentine's Breakfast- let's make it a good one! If you're no hand in the kitchen but still want to treat your other half, head out for takeout breakfast.
Kith and Kin – fancy breakfasts with a view found by the coast in Whitley Bay.
Proven Goods - Handmade doughnuts and coffee - personally if it's with coffee it can be classed as breakfast.. Perfect for those who have a sweet tooth!

Horticulture –Collection and Delivery!!
Not heard of these guys yet?? My favourite new addition to the city centre, they weren’t open long before lockdown 1 began but boy did they make it clear they’re here to stay and we are so grateful!
They have brought out Horti at Home. It’s not your regular takeaway, it requires a little effort but I can promise you it’s worth it! All the dishes are prepared ready for you to finish off cooking at home. You simply heat up the dishes, a little prep here and there and, of course, serve on your fanciest dinner plates.
It’s as gourmet as you’re going to get! Everything is prepared for you from freshly infused oil for you to drizzle, to chocolate dusting to finish off your dessert. It is all labelled and accompanied with the simplest instructions – I mean they may have done all the hard work but I would still count it as you cooking..
Bringing ingredients from the land, the sea and the earth. - Meaning there is something for everyone.

Battle of The Burger Winners for five years running. Its’ not bragging when it’s true! These guys own the takeout vibe, offering the finest platters, burgers and tacos as well as their signature cocktails at home. They have their city venue in the heart of Newcastle and their Tynemouth venue just a stones throw away from the beach.

Dobson and Parnell are known for serving some of the finest food in Newcastle! They are continuing to offer their fabulous gourmet food at home! They've designed a special Valentine's menu and it sounds incredible - see it here.
Blackbird Ponteland – if you’re after a classic homemade feel and Ponetland is a local, we recommend trying The Blackbird they have something new and exciting on every week with guests food vendors, local bakers and their own fabulous takeout too. You’ll also spy one of our Tipis there!
The White Swan Ovingham – Valentine's is on a Sunday and there is no better place for a proper homemade Sunday dinner.
Get glam!
Make sure you get dressed up, suit and tie not required but always welcomed. I think lockdown one had us embracing the sun-kissed look and pyjamas but lockdown three and no sunshine..we need a reason to get glam and what better reason than date night.

The Classic - movie night..
If you’re opting for a simple night in i.e. film and snacks- I’d say go all out with it! Duvet downstairs, every scatter cushion finally makes some use as it takes pride in the living-room fort, and fairy lights are essential. Don’t just get a tub of ice-cream get all the toppings and set up a parlour. Pimp your Prosecco – the home addition.
Advice: Pick the film the day before! - Saves you scrolling through Netflix for an hour, ruining the vibe!
Finally, we may not be able to escape for a night away just yet but venues are still taking future bookings. We can’t recommend enough the incredible Kidlandlee for a weekend away in luxury accommodation within beautifully renovated stone cottages.
